Cuál MSA Study Do I Need?

Consider what actually gets written down, not what is being inspected.
This flow covers the common cases. Real medición problems sometimes need more than one estudio, and a full MSA for a critical characteristic usually does.

Each pregunta eliminates a whole family of estudios, which is why so few preguntas are needed.
- Variable or atributo?
- This decides whether varianza-based métodos are available at all. Attribute datos has no numeric scale, so every estudio that decomposes varianza is ruled out in one step.
- Precision or exactitud?
- Precision estudios ask whether readings agree. Accuracy estudios ask whether they are correct. These are independent propiedades and are assessed by entirely different estudios, which is why a gauge can pass one and fail the other.
- One operador or several?
- Reproducibility only exists when more than one person measures. With a single operador or an automated gauge, there is no between-operador component to estimate and a capability estudio is the better fit.

Dónde a row says the estudio is not currently available, that is a genuine gap in the tool rather than a suggestion that the estudio is unnecessary. If your quality system or your customer requires one of these, run it against your own procedure.
Common mistakes when choosing
- Running a R&R del sistema de medición and treating a pass as a complete MSA. It covers repetibilidad and reproducibilidad only, and says nothing about sesgo, linealidad or estabilidad.
- Coding pass as 1 and fail as 0 to force atributo datos through a R&R del sistema de medición. The arithmetic runs and the resultado is meaningless.
- Running a three-operador estudio when only one person ever uses the gauge. You will estimate a reproducibilidad component that has no physical meaning in your proceso.
- Choosing the estudio before defining the pregunta. If you cannot state in one sentence what you are worried about, no estudio will resolve it.
The one thing to remember
The estudio you need follows from the pregunta you are asking. Decide what you are worried about first, then pick the estudio, not the other way around.
